Joie de Vivre: St. Barth's Getaway Guide!

Monelle gals love a good pom-pom hat, fresh powder, and après-ski, but she also lives for a striped bikini, white linen, her toes in the sand, and a glass of rose in hand. So where to jet off to beat the winter blues when summer seems so far out of reach?! Time to escape to agreeably the most glamorous Caribbean island. From where to stay, dine, relax and adventure – we have it covered.

How to Get There

The main gateway to St. Barts is through Juliana Airport in St Maarten, where international flights arrive daily.
From St Maarten (SXM), you can choose between Winair and St Barth Commuter for the ten minute shuttle flights to St Barts. The airstrip on St Barts is small, and pilots have special training for the landing - which is an adventure itself.
If tiny planes aren't for you, try taking the ferry from St Maarten - The Great Bay Express, which is about 40 minutes long.  The ferry leaves from Bobby's Marina Village in Philipsburg and arrives in Gare Maritime in Gustavia

    Packing Essentials

Kaftans are a must-have for the glamorous beaches of St. Barth's as well as a Hermès beach towel. An Annabel Ingall tote bag can hold everything you need on the plane, as well as the beach. We love Melissa Odabash Swimwear and Mystique Sandals. A Roberta Roller Rabbit silk pom scarf adds a fun touch to any outfit. An embroidered tunic by Calypso and linen pants make an easy outfit for shopping. These luxe Monkey Earrings will turn heads when you're out on the town. Days of rays required chic sunnies like this Balenciaga pair (coming soon!) and don't forget Coola Organic Sunscreen! Our book recommendations? The French Beauty Solution and French Women Don't Get Fat - since we are in the French Indies - is ideal light reading since, lets be honest, there is lots of rosé to be had.

    Eat Well

      Maya's To-Go

Not far from St. Barth’s airport, Maya’s is both a takeaway restaurant and a gourmet food shop. The interior is bright and airy, glass cases filled with homemade croissants, fruit tarts, and wooden shelves lined with local jams, rosemary flatbread, artisan chocolates, and fine wines. Blending French and Caribbean flavors, the chalkboard menu might include such specialties as Tahitian tuna salad, and red snapper with Creole sauce. Some seating is available on the shaded patio out front, but Maya’s is also a popular place to fill up a picnic basket before heading to the beach.

        Le Gaiac

Located in Hotel Le Toiny’s overlooking the infinity pool and ocean, Le Gaïac is also French and Creole influenced. An ideal spot for breakfast, on Sundays they're known for an all-you-can-eat Champagne brunch. The hotel has a greenhouse built on an old pineapple field, creating a source for some of the restaurant's organic produce.

La Plage's menu and experience changes day by day offering a unique atmosphere. Start your day off with one of their signature juices like "TORTURE", a blend of spinach, cucumber, apple, celery, parsley and lemon. Need a little hair of the dog? Try "GREEN TURTLE", the "TORTURE" juice with Hendricks Gin. Order some Crispy Shrimps or a Lobsterburger in Paradise for a perfect lunch on the beach.

          Gouverner's Beach
This beach is steps from the parking lot. Great for surfing or snorkeling.

          Grand Fond
Untamed coastline is the best way to describe this beach. Enjoy swimming and looking for sea life in natural swimming lagoons.
